Mauterndorf offers wonderful hikes to the many mountain lakes in the area, as well as the opportunity to go on various cycling tours at all altitudes. Winter offers perfectly groomed slopes in the Großbeck-Speiereck ski area. Here you can develop your skiing skills on the approximately 50 km of pistes. Here you can enjoy the valley descent from Speiereck to St. Michael, which with an altitude difference of 1,350 metres and around 9 km offers something of a highlight! In addition, several describe that the most beautiful slopes are below the Speiereck area, which is the highest point in Salzburg besides the glacier areas. The area is also guaranteed with ski guns, making the destination snow safe.
If the 50 km of slopes are not enough, it is possible to buy the lift pass, Ski Lungau, which gives access to about 150 km of slopes, which are distributed in the areas of Katschberg-Aineck, Fanningberg and Großseck-Speiereck as well as St. Michael, Schönfeld, Zederhaus and Lessach.

In town is the castle, Burg Mauterndorf, which is compared to a fairytale castle, taking you back to the Middle Ages. The castle is not to be missed in the town and the locals are very proud of it and its history.
