About Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort

 

Roughly 70 years ago, Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort opened it’s doors. Ever since the resort has become famous for its challenging and varied terrain, near-perfect snow conditions and hot springs The resort is located an hour from Nagano City, while the local village is located at the foot of the mountain and the slopes are spread over three ski areas. There is a lot of terrain to explore for beginners and advanced skiers, including the possibility of carving in wide pistes and finding deep powder snow. For those who prefer jumping and rails, there are terrain parks with everything you need for a proper adrenaline rush! In total, 1085 fall height meters and 279 hectares are there to be shred.

 

 

The Ski School

 

Over the years, the ski school has developed a reputation for being one of the best in the country and serves both national and international guests primarily from Hong Kong, China and Australia. As a trained ski instructor at Snowminds, you should expect to speak English at all times. The ski school has nearly 50 ski and snowboard instructors, who also live together. The leadership is known to place a high priority on instructor training and making sure their employees are thriving. They also offer English-speaking backcountry tours, so there’s a good chance you can at least shadow an experienced instructor.

Going to Nozawa is more than a skiing experience – here you can experience true Japanese culture, the famous hot springs of the city and a well-known fire festival. In the village, there are also several examples of amazing traditional architecture with temples, holy buildings, hot springs, traditional Japanese small hotels and free foot baths on many of the streets. Although the village is relatively small there is nonetheless a wide-range of restaurants where you can enjoy all the Japanese cuisine has to offer. In mid-January, the fire festival will be held, one of the most famous and exciting fire festivals throughout Japan. There are thirty-one beautiful Onsens (hot springs) in the village where it is free to swim. For those who want to ensure a real Japanese experience in addition to skiing, this is the place for you!
