We have designed a ski instructor course in collaboration with Instituto Superior de Enseñanzas en Deportes de Invierno y Montaña (ISEDI). The goal is simple: to provide you the best possible ski training and preparation before your ski instructor exam, so you, with our help, can work a full season in Spain.
The Spanish TD1 certification is demanding and worldwide recognized. You will start an English theoretical part typically in September via ISEDIs online platform. After some self study supported by the Snowminds experts and your fellow Snowminders, the journey begins in November where you will arrive in Granada in Spain to meet your fellow Snowminders and conduct a short week of orientation and theoretical studies.
After some fun and learning full days in Granada, you will travel to Sierra Nevada with the other Snowminders where your on-snow training will start. After some intense training days by our professional trainers, you will be ready to tackle the Entry Test to the Spanish Ski Instructor Course (TD1). After the test, we will have a little fiesta to celebrate and then do a small week of e.g. snow school-oriented training before the TD1 kicks off. The TD1 will be taught in English and Spanish by ISEDI, so the more you have practiced your Spanish glossary the better. During the course, you will learn how to give classes to beginners, intermediate and experienced skiers. You will also extend your knowledge of team-building skills, skiing material, sports safety, mountain environments, teaching methods, skiing strategies and skills.
After the course, you will start the practical block, which typically is a month-long internship at your ski school. Here you will follow professional instructors and start teaching on your own. When finalized you have learned all the technical and practical elements required to work as a ski instructor and you will receive your certification. You will continue working at the same ski school as you did your internship. All in all, you will be prepared for a season as a ski instructor in Spain!

If you don’t feel that your Spanish skills aren’t good enough yet, then there are lots of possibilities to improve your Spanish with Duolingo, summer camps and evening classes. If you are determined and have linguistic instinct, then ideally you should be able to speak Spanish at a conversational level by November, when the course starts.
We have a partnership with Instituto Superior de Enseñanzas en Deportes de Invierno y Montaña who provides the Spanish Level 1 (TD1), which is a highly internationally respected ski certification. We have made this collaboration to secure you with the best training and preparation.
The TD1 course is level 1 in the Spanish ski instructor system. You will be trained to give classed to beginners, light experienced, and experienced skiers. After your exam and shadowing hours you will be ready to work at the ski school.
With the TD1 you will be able to work in most of the World and for example do a summer season in Argentina or Chile.
As a part of the education you will have to do un-paid practical hours before you can start working as a ski instructor. The practical hours are prescribed by law in Spain and is one of the reasons why the Spanish level 1 is highly regarded around the World. You will learn how to work as a ski instructor, run classes by yourself, train your Spanish vocabulary, and get to know the ski school. The timing can vary a bit due to snow conditions and the amount of guests in December and January.
The practical parts is divided in 3 parts:
The job guarantee means that we will provide you with a job at a local ski school, after you have successfully passed your instructor training. Length of employment, hours, salary and so forth is between you and the ski school. In the event you fail your exam we will try to help you with another job. We are proud to say that since 2012 we have always been able to find a job for 100% of our instructors after graduation from our training course.
You will be employed directly at the ski school which will pay out your salary depending on your effort. At most of the Spanish ski schools the salary is 16-17€ an hour with the Spanish level 1. You will not become rich as a ski instructor, but the hourly salary in Spain is generally higher that other destinations when having a level 1 course. A working week can vary depending on snow conditions and number of visitors.
Please note that you have to pay for accommodation after the course finishes.
It is your own responsibility to arrange your transport to and from Spain. We are happy to assist with bookings and similar.
When you arrive in Granada we have booked a hostel for the Snowminds group. In Sierra Nevada we have partnered up with a hostel where you will stay during the course, and if you prefer, during the season. You will pay for the accommodation from December 23rd and the accommodation includes ski storage, breakfast, dinner, and cleaning of your room.
If you will like to stay here during the season you will have to commit to staying and paying for the full season. If you prefer to find your own season accommodation please let us know.
