There’s a good reason why Whistler Blackcomb is known among all ski enthusiasts. The destination combines some of the world’s best skiing with amazing powder snow, the loveliest people and beautiful scenery as far as the eye can see. The town of Whistler lies in the valley between the two mountains Blackcomb Mountain and Whistler Mountain, which are joined by the gondola “Peak 2 Peak”, one of the world’s longest lifts.

We are proud to present a unique winter season combining work and play on our English-speaking level 1 ski instructor course with a job in Whistler. You’ll have direct access to the world-renowned ski area in the Fitzsimmons Range.

A winter in Whistler

From November and forward, you’ll attend our Level 1 Instructor Course, designed to prepare you for work as an instructor at a Whistler Blackcomb ski school. As part of the course, you will receive a lift pass for the whole season, an internationally recognized level 1 exam, flights from a major international airport to Canada, and a job in Whistler.

You will teach skiers from all over the world, especially Canada and the USA, giving you a unique insight into North American culture. The ski school in Whistler Blackcomb is large and international, and there are opportunities to get a job on both Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. In your free time, there are opportunities to explore the vast terrain, where there is some fantastic off-piste skiing.

What is not included?

  • Any visa application fees/costs
  • Travel activity after the season ends (including, transport from your destination to the airport)
  • Cancellation and travel insurance
  • Security deposit and monthly rent for your winter accommodation
  • Possible expenses for uniform during the season (this varies from ski school to ski school – deposit may be required)
  • Equipment for the season
  • Pocket money***, food and anything else not mentioned above in the included section.
  • Extra luggage beyond the two (2) bags included with your roundtrip flights

 

*Season lift pass can be conditional on passing education and maintaining subsequent employment. Monthly rent is not included. 

**Return flights are included from a major international airports including London, Frankfurt, Paris, and Amsterdam. We will happily arrange flights from other areas, such as Edinburgh or Sydney, upon request and likely extra charges. In all cases, please be aware that there may be additional costs depending on the departure airport, flight availabilities, and price increases! We will notify you before final flight bookings are made in such cases. You are also welcome to book your own flights, in which case we provide a 700 euro discount on your trip. **** Please note that the Canadian government requires you to have at least 2500 CAD in your account upon entry to Canada. This amount must be available after your rent, equipment, course, etc. has been paid.

WHO CAN APPLY?

At Snowminds we pride ourselves in selecting the right people for our team of ski- and snowboard instructors. We are renowned amongst the ski schools for educating competent, energetic and top motivated ski- and snowboard instructors. You definitely do not need to be an expert to become a ski instructor in Canada, and we encourage everyone with this dream to apply. The most important thing for you is to be positive, outgoing, adventurous and ready to work hard to get the memory of a lifetime as a part of the Snowminds team.

 

Requirements to join Whistler program:

  • You have skied or snowboarded a minimum of 3-4 weeks
  • You have experience working children and are motivated and excited to work with children of all ages*
  • You are positive, outgoing and adventurous
  • You are serious, responsible and top motivated
  • You are good with kids, teens, and adults
  • You enjoy teaching and love being challenged
  • You speak English at a conversational level
  • You will be 19 years or above at start of the program*

 

* These requirements are specific to Whistler Snow School, if you do not have experience working with children or meet age requirements please reach out to us to talk about your options or apply for an internship in Canada here.

When you have sent your application, we will begin our recruitment process with you.  Our team of instructors will first give you a call to hear if you have any questions, and then invite you for an online interview.

During the interview, we will evaluate your candidacy while you have the opportunity to get more information about our courses and the experience as an instructor in Canada.

After the interview, we will call you and let you know whether or not we can offer you a spot on our team with a job placement for the winter season.

We have a big interest in our courses and the spots fill up quickly. Therefore we have a “first come, first serve” principle with an application deadline each month.
