KEY DETAILS ABOUT THE COURSE

Accommodation

When you join our Level 2 Ski Instructor Course in Cypress, your accommodation will be arranged before you arrive – so you can focus on enjoying your season. Because many Canadian ski schools hire a mix of local and international staff, housing isn’t usually included in work contracts. That’s why Snowminds works closely with Cypress Mountain and trusted local partners to secure suitable housing for you and your fellow instructors.

You’ll live in North Vancouver, a vibrant area known for its mountain views, cozy cafés, and easy access to both Cypress Mountain and downtown Vancouver. It’s the perfect balance of city and mountain life. Most instructors stay in shared accommodation with other Snowminds participants or resort staff, creating a welcoming community atmosphere from day one.

The housing setup can vary – from older shared houses to apartments or dorm-style homes – but all options are clean, comfortable, and within reach of the slopes. Think functionality over luxury: a true instructor lifestyle where your housemates often become your closest friends. By the end of the season, saying goodbye will probably be the hardest part!

Rent, Contract & Deposit Details

Since housing is arranged separately from your work contract, rent is paid directly to the landlord or housing provider. You’ll typically sign a rental agreement before arrival and prepay your seasonal rent to secure your spot.

  • Rent: Usually between 800-1300 CAD per month, based on a full-season rental commitment.

  • Deposit: Refundable after the season if the accommodation is left clean and undamaged.

Seasonal housing in Canada can be costly, but Snowminds ensures all instructors receive reliable, good-value options. Full details about your specific accommodation will be provided in your rental contract or through the ski school’s housing department before your departure.

Work permit

Since there is a job placement included in this package, you will need to obtain a work permit before your departure. We will provide support and guidance to help you apply for the necessary visa, which gives you the right to work and travel in Canada for up to either 12 or 24 months (depending on which country you are from).

There is a limited amount of Working Holiday Visas allocated to each country and the process can take a long time. Therefore, we recommend that you secure your spot on the team as early as possible so that we can help you with the process and get the best chances of getting your hands on a visa.

Work hours

Workloads vary by resort, but instructors generally have more free time on weekdays. In Canada, pay is usually hourly, with weekends and peak holiday periods like Christmas, New Year, and President’s Week being the busiest.

To maximize your hours, show motivation and take on as many lessons as possible during peak times. In quieter periods, use the time to join advanced training with your ski school or explore nearby resorts with friends. Most ski schools provide at least two free days per week, with some offering three to four in certain resorts.
