“Los geht’s” we say!
Our popular 5-week ski instructor course followed by a season in Austria takes place both on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier near Kaprun and in Sankt Anton. We start in mid-November with about 3 weeks in a hotel with half-board in Kaprun. Here, you will be taught by skilled, local ski instructors in preparation for the 10-day long Austrian Anwärter instructor training in Sankt Anton.
After the first approx. 3 weeks, we arrange transport to Sankt Anton, where you will move into the ski school’s season housing along with the other Snowminds trainees. During this part of the course, you are responsible for breakfast, but have dinner at a local restaurant included. The next approx. 2 weeks, you will receive another 3 preparatory training days from local ski instructors from Sankt Anton before the Anwärter training begins. If you pass the training and the ski school’s recruitment process, you will then start the season as an Austrian-trained ski instructor on a ski school in Austria.
The ski instructor training is demanding, but we can proudly say that since we started in 2012, we have been able to help 100% of our “Snowminders” with a job after completing their ski instructor training.
This winter, all our new ski instructors will join the Skischule Arlberg Work and Train program. In short, due to the low season in January, you will not be working from the 11th of January until the 8th of February 2025. Instead, you are offered to join the Skischule Arlberg Work and Train program, where you get 4 weeks of accommodation, 2 training days per week (8 in total) and a lift ticket from the 11th of January until the 8th of February. The price for this program is 1200 euro, which will be added to your travel profile and paid as a part of your course price.
The work and train program is a unique opportunity to develop further during winter and a great time to get visits from friends and family.

It is therefore important that you understand that this course does not include a job guarantee but that a potential job in Sankt Anton might be offered to you by the ski school at the end of the course.

Ski Season Housing
Wherever you go, Snowminds guarantees you arranged housing at your local ski school for a full-season. The precise details of your housing vary quite a bit, ski school to ski school and country to country. That’s because everybody does things differently. Regardless, you can expect to either live in ski school housing or affordable housing arranged by Snowminds, which is easily accessible to a nearby lift.
In Sankt Anton, the ski school owns accommodations in various parts of the town, where you will be housed together with other ski instructors. You will typically live in rooms for 2-4 people with others from Snowminds. Please note that you will need to pay the ski school for the cost of your accommodation during the season.
Salary
An average salary for a starting instructor in Austria is around €800-€1.000 per month. In addition to this there are often opportunities for bonuses, for example a guest may wish to extend their lesson with you as an instructor. The job as an instructor won’t get you rich money wise, but definitely rich with experiences. We recommend bringing pocket money which will allow you to have the freedom to fully enjoy your season. The pay also depends on your own motivation, your working ethics and your previous working experience.
Training during the ski instructor course
Our 5-week instructor course consists of approximately 3 weeks of preparation course in Kaprun with training approximately 5 days a week and 2 days off. The preparatory training will introduce you to the most essential exercises needed to master and subsequently pass the 10-day long Austrian “Anwärter” ski instructor education.
After the first approx. 3 weeks, we arrange transport for you and the other participants to Sankt Anton, where for the next 2 weeks, there are first 3 days of preparatory training before the Anwärter course begins.
Each year, we see that our instructors’ technique quickly improves and through ongoing personal feedback during the ski instructor course, which is extremely valuable for the chances of passing the Anwärter education. At the same time, we hold German lessons and relevant presentations, which should help to prepare you in the best possible way for the education.
Of course, we also arrange many social activities during the course, which many of our participants describe a bit like being 5 weeks at either a boarding school or a folk high school.
Ski pass during the course and season
At the start of the course, you will be given a lift pass, so you can hit the slopes at full throttle for the next 5 weeks. This ski pass can of course also be used on your days off, i.e., when there is no instruction, if you want to hit the slopes on your own.
Provided you pass the instructor exam and get a job at the ski school, you will receive a season ski pass. However, this card must be returned when you stop at the ski school. There may be a personal payment or deposit on the ski pass, which varies from ski school to ski school.
Instructor Certification
To offer a high-quality education, we work together with the Tiroler Skilehrer Verband, one of the world’s most recognized instructor schools. This will not only look good on the CV, but is also very useful if you decide to return with Snowminds for our other destinations around the world.
The last 10 days of your course their trainers will take you through the Anwärter education, which is level 1 in their education system. Here you will be trained to teach beginners and intermediate skiers, and after passing the exam, be ready to start working with your employer and anywhere in Austria.
