The ski instructor course and season in Grandvalira

Your season in Andorra begins in early december, giving you the opportunity to settle into the resort before winter gets fully underway. After arriving in Soldeu, you’ll move into your seasonal accommodation, take part in orientation, receive your lift pass, and meet the local team.

Unlike a Level 1 or Level 2 course, this internship is built for instructors who already have a foundation in teaching and skiing. The focus is on progression: improving your technical performance, developing your ability to analyse skiing, and building the confidence to teach at a higher level and pass the BASI Level 3 ski instructor course.

Throughout the season, you’ll take part in structured training sessions designed to prepare you for the demands of the BASI Level 3 exam. These sessions include technical skiing, teaching development, movement analysis, piste performance, off-piste or variable-condition skiing, and exam preparation.

Alongside the training, the local Grandvalira ski schools will become your professional home for the season. Known for their energy, strong team spirit, and high teaching standards, they offer an ideal setting for qualified instructors who want to keep progressing. Through ski school orientation, shadowing hours, and a work opportunity at the Grandvalira ski school, you’ll gain valuable insight into professional instructor life in Andorra, while continuing to build real work experience.

The training is focused and demanding, as you would expect from a Level 3 ski instructor pathway, but the season is also about enjoying the mountain lifestyle, building friendships, and becoming part of the Grandvalira instructor community. Between training days, ski school experience, and time on the slopes, you’ll have the space to keep developing while making the most of a full winter in the Pyrenees.

Key Details About the Course

JOB EXPECTATIONS

As your prospective employer, the ski school, not Snowminds, independently sets your work schedule, compensation, and other employment conditions. Consequently, your employment relationship is direct with the ski school, and we can’t guarantee specific conditions such as a minimum number of work hours. However, should you have any queries or concerns, we are always available to provide assistance.

As a qualified instructor, you bring previous teaching experience and a stronger professional foundation than an entry-level instructor. However, the amount and type of work you receive can still vary depending on your qualifications, language skills, availability, guest demand, and the ski school’s needs during the season.

The salary expectations for Andorra are 19-22 euros per hour, depending on experience level and certification.

WORKING HOURS

As a qualified instructor, you may have more experience than newly certified instructors, but work allocation is still managed by the ski school. More experienced instructors, local staff, and returning instructors may receive priority for certain lessons, while available hours can vary throughout the season.

The best way to make the most of your work opportunity is to show professionalism, flexibility, motivation, and a strong willingness to contribute to the ski school team. Ski schools often value instructors who are reliable, positive, proactive, and ready to help during busy periods. The busiest periods in Grandvalira are typically Christmas and New Year, February holidays, and sometimes Easter, depending on the season. During these weeks, there may be more opportunities to teach, shadow, assist, or support the ski school operation.

ACCOMMODATION

Seasonal accommodation is not included in the course price, but Snowminds or the Grandvalira ski school can support you with accommodation options for the winter. This helps make the practical side of the season easier, while still giving you flexibility in how your accommodation is arranged.

Accommodation in Andorra is typically shared with other instructors or seasonal workers, creating a strong community throughout the winter. It gives you the chance to live with like-minded people, share the season experience, and become part of the mountain lifestyle outside your training and work.

Rent, housing deposit, and any related accommodation costs are paid separately and are not included in the course price. In most cases, seasonal accommodation is arranged for the winter period, and you may be asked to sign a housing agreement and pay rent before arrival. The exact cost and payment terms depend on the accommodation option available for your season.

WORKING PERMIT

To stay and work in Andorra for the winter season, you need a seasonal work permit. This applies to all nationalities – including EU, EFTA, and British citizens. While Andorra is not part of the EU, it has agreements in place that make it possible for foreigners to live and work in the country during the ski season.

Once you have applied with Snowminds we will advise on the paperwork required to obtain prior to your arrival in Andorra.
