5 reasons to go on a winter season in Spain

Snowminds August 21, 2019

When deciding on a winter season, most people don’t consider Spain as skiing is usually not associated with the southern paradise. But we think that it is a shame that Spain, as a winter destination, has so much offer, so we have listed some of them for you below.

Europe’s most southern ski area

Sierra Nevada in the south of Spain is europe’s most southern ski area and because of the areas altitude (2.100 meters) the area is open from end November til start May! Not only does it have the altitude, but there is also more than 100 kilometeres of terrrain spread over 124 routes for all levels.

Ski and charter

You won’t find many places where you can go ride in the morning and go to the beach in the afternoon. April/May is the best time to exploit this, especiallt in Sierra Nevada, where you are only one hour away from one of Granadas best beaches “Salobrena”. We speak from experience when we say that even though we love snow, nobody minds a trip to the beach once in a while.

Everything is cheap and delicious!

Even the most popular ski areas as Sierra Nevada, Baqueria or La molina only costs a quarter of the price as the ski areas in Austria, France or Switzerland. It is not only the lift passes, but also the delicious food and drinks that you can save a lot of money on – and often the quality is higher too! This combined with the nice salaries in the ski schools, it can be very lucurious to take a winter season in Spain.

Less touristy

Just like you are sitting there thinking “I didn’t think you could do proper riding in Spain” so are many others. This means that many of the ski areas are less touriste and you can enjoy the slopes without a 100 meter lift que every morning.

The mountains

Spain is actually the 2nd most mountainous county in Europe right after Switzerland. This means that there is plenty of opportunity to explore the countless ski areas, hiking trails and exceptional views both without and without ski or snowboard attached. Due to the very Southern location for Sierra Nevada, there is always a lot of sunny hours in the winter season – so remember the sun screen!
